Computing Subject Intent

The Colchester School’s Primary Computing Curriculum, which uses the Teach It Computing Scheme, ensures that pupils use a range of computational thinking skills and creativity in order to understand the way that technology is used throughout the world.  Well-planned and inspiring lessons lead to creativity in terms of the way technology is used and shared by the pupils. Teaching across the Colchester Curriculum equips children to be able to use the internet and other technology safely and compassionately, to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms, and data representation. Children will be able to analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve problems. They will be able to evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems. Children will approach tasks with courageous optimism, building upon the skills they have learnt year by year, ensuring they are ready to use these in the wider world as well as coping with the way that technology is constantly evolving. Children will become responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
