Personal Development at Holy Trinity C. of E. Primary School

At Holy Trinity primary School, personal development is central to our vision for every child. We recognise that education is about more than academic success; it is about developing happy, confident, respectful, and resilient pupils who are prepared for life in modern Britain. Our purpose is to build great learning communities where children flourish, unleash boundless creativity and champion courageous optimism, in a spirit of heartfelt compassion

Our Christian verse and school values and ethos are underpinned by personal development:

“Through God’s love, we are the rich soil where seeds flourish and roots grow.”
Luke chapter 8 verses 4-15.

Personal development at our school reflects our recognition of the importance of holistic education in fostering well-rounded pupils. We consider how effectively our school supports our children in developing academically, personally, socially, and morally, ensuring they are ready for future learning and life beyond school.

We are committed to nurturing the whole child by supporting pupils to:

Develop self-confidence, independence, and resilience
Build positive relationships and communication skills
Understand right from wrong and make responsible choices
Respect diversity and celebrate differences
Feel valued, included, and able to contribute to their community

How personal development is embedded in our school:

Curriculum

Our curriculum actively promotes personal growth alongside academic learning. Through PSHE, Relationships and Health Education, RE, and wider curriculum links, pupils learn about:

Emotional wellbeing and mental health
Diversity, equality, and respect for others
Healthy relationships and personal safety
British values, including democracy, tolerance, and mutual respect

Learning is progressive, inclusive, and age-appropriate, ensuring pupils build strong foundations for later life.

Diversity and Respect

We celebrate the diversity of our school community and wider society. Pupils are taught to value differences, challenge stereotypes, and treat everyone with kindness, fairness, and respect.

Collective worship, curriculum content, discussions, and shared experiences help children develop an understanding of different cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles, supporting them to become inclusive and respectful citizens.

Leadership and Pupil Voice

We provide pupils with meaningful opportunities for leadership and responsibility, helping them develop confidence, initiative, and a strong sense of belonging.

Leadership opportunities include:

School council, head prefects and LIFE ambassadors
Worship leaders, house captains, play leaders, librarians and class responsibilities
Supporting peers and younger pupils (guardian angels)
Contributing ideas that help shape school life

Through these roles, pupils learn about teamwork, responsibility, and democratic processes.

Enrichment and wider experiences

Personal development is further enhanced through clubs, sports, educational visits, visitors, assemblies, and community involvement. These experiences broaden pupils’ horizons, raise aspirations, and help them develop independence and curiosity.

Preparing pupils for life beyond our school

By prioritising personal development — including leadership, diversity and respect, and high-quality outdoor play — we ensure that pupils leave our school as well-rounded, confident, and respectful individuals, ready for the next stage of their education and for life beyond the classroom.
